WOODBURY, New York , August 2009 - USS New York Commissioning Supported By Overseas Military Sales Corporation.
Overseas Military Sales Corporation (OMSC) has been named a sponsor of the USS New York Commissioning Committee, which has been formally designated to fund and organize the events surrounding the USS New York, the U.S. Navy’s newest ship.
The contributions of OMSC will help fund a variety of educational and special needs of the crew. The USS New York is named for the people of the State of New York as a tribute to those who perished on September 11, 2001. It is significant that the USS New York features 7 and a half tons of steel from the fallen World Trade Center forged into her bow. The USS New York is a state-of-the-art stealth ship designed to deploy U.S. Marines wherever they are needed.
After the formal commissioning ceremony on November 7, 2009, the ship will become an official unit of the United States Navy. “OMSC has a long and storied history of serving the Navy with our Exchange New Car Sales and Navy AutoSource programs and supporting all of our armed forces overseas through our involvement with MWR initiatives. In view of this, and our proximity to the World Trade Center and the events that occurred on 9/11/01, OMSC is proud to commit to a sponsorship role in the upcoming commissioning of the USS New York in New York City on November 7th.
It is also appropriate that the commissioning takes place just days before Veteran’s Day,” said David Goldring, Chairman of OMSC. “I know I speak for everyone at OMSC when I say that we all feel particularly honored to participate in this historic commissioning ceremony and celebration in an official capacity.”
